Insurance and Billing

Insurance can feel complicated and overwhelming.  We are here to help.

Before your child even starts therapy, MOCO's Billing Team walks you through what's covered, what to expect, and what happens next, so you can focus on your child instead of the paperwork.

Quick Answer

MOCO Movement Center is located in Kensington, MD, and sees children and families from throughout Montgomery County, including Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville, Gaithersburg, and Potomac, as well as Prince George's and Howard Counties, Washington, DC, and the greater DMV. MOCO is in-network with Kaiser Permanente commercial plans and a Preferred Provider for Humana Military / TRICARE. MOCO is out-of-network with all other commercial insurance carriers and does not participate with Medicare/Medicaid. For out-of-network families, MOCO verifies benefits and submits claims directly to the carrier; reimbursement is not guaranteed and depends on each plan. Private pay is available for families who prefer to skip insurance altogether.

Navigating Insurance at MOCO

In-network: MOCO is in-network with Kaiser Permanente commercial plans.

Out-of-network does not mean out of reach.

Other Commercial Insurance Plans (Out-of-Network): MOCO is out-of-network with all other commercial insurance plans. Many plans include out-of-network benefits, which may provide coverage comparable to or greater than certain in-network benefits. MOCO will verify your benefits to determine available out-of-network coverage and anticipated financial responsibility. If your plan does not include out-of-network benefits, services are available on a self-pay basis.

Medicare or Medicaid Coverage: MOCO does not participate with or bill Medicare/Medicaid plans, including Kaiser Permanente Medicare/Medicaid products. However, patients with Medicare/Medicaid may receive services at MOCO under the following circumstances:

  • Medicare/Medicaid as Secondary Insurance: Patients with a commercial insurance plan as their primary insurance and Medicare/Medicaid as their secondary insurance may receive services at MOCO.  Services may be submitted to the primary commercial insurance plan. Because MOCO does not participate with Medicare/Medicaid, any remaining patient responsibility is billed according to MOCO's self-pay rates.

  • Limited episode of care:

    • When services are time-sensitive and a patient is unable to obtain timely care from a Medicare/Medicaid-participating provider, MOCO may consider providing a limited episode of care on self-pay basis.

    • When approved, the patient may be evaluated and receive services at MOCO for up to six months while the family works to transition care to a Medicare/Medicaid-participating provider as services become available.

    • Eligibility for a limited episode of care is determined on an individual basis and does not constitute MOCO's participation with the patient's Medicare/Medicaid plan.

Private Pay

Some families skip insurance altogether. That can make sense if you:

do not have therapy benefits on your current plan

have already used this year's visit limit

want a program or intensive your plan does not cover

would rather start now than wait on an authorization

Private pay is simple: no claims, no waiting on approval, just care.

Getting Started at MOCO

From your first inquiry to your first visit, MOCO's team is here to make getting started simple. Beginning therapy comes with questions, not only about your child's care, but also about scheduling, insurance, and cost. MOCO's Scheduling and Billing Teams work with you along the way so you understand your options and know what to expect before moving forward.

1

Connect With Us

Tell us what you're looking for.

Start by contacting MOCO's Scheduling Team. The team will learn a little about your child, the services you're seeking, and your scheduling needs.

You'll then complete MOCO's initial Patient Intake, which gives the team the information needed to begin looking for availability.

2

MOCO Checks Availability and Your Benefits

While MOCO explores appointment options, the Billing Team does the homework on your insurance.

MOCO's Billing Team completes a Verification of Benefits (VOB) to help you understand how your plan may apply to services at MOCO. Verification is generally completed within 3 business days.

Once complete, a member of the Billing Team will personally contact you to review your insurance benefits and coverage, including deductible, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket max, and authorization needs, along with MOCO-specific billing information. If MOCO is unable to reach you by phone, the team will send an email so you can coordinate a time to connect, or you can return the call directly.

This conversation matters. Rather than simply sending you insurance information, MOCO's team takes the time to walk through your benefits, anticipated costs, and billing information.

While MOCO works to provide the most accurate information available, verification of benefits is not a guarantee of coverage or reimbursement. Like the information provided by your insurance carrier, final coverage and reimbursement are determined by the terms and conditions of your individual insurance plan.

3

Decide if MOCO Is the Right Fit

Understand your options before moving forward.

Once MOCO has reviewed availability, benefits, and anticipated costs with you, you can decide whether to move forward. If you're ready, you'll be asked to complete:

Patient Portal Registration, then Consent Forms, then Medical History.

Completing these items helps your clinical team prepare for your child and ensures MOCO has the information and permissions needed to begin care.

4

Let's Get Started

Once registration is complete, MOCO takes it from there.

MOCO's Scheduling Team will reach out to coordinate your child's:

  • 30-Minute Virtual Pre-Evaluation Consultation

  • 90-Minute Initial Evaluation

To protect your child's care and ensure MOCO's clinicians are prepared, appointments can only be scheduled after Patient Portal Registration and the required Consent Forms and Medical History have been completed.

A More Personal Start to Care

At MOCO, getting started is more than paperwork and appointment times. MOCO's goal is to help your family understand availability, insurance, anticipated costs, and next steps, so you can make an informed decision about your child's care.

What Families Say About MOCO

"Been going here for a year or so for our daughter who has a mild OT related delay. We are Kaiser members, and both us parents are in healthcare. I think they do a really good job. They are attentive, are service oriented, have been able to accommodate our challenging schedule needs. Being in healthcare I have to say they are doing an amazing job. There are so many limitations and restrictions and things that get in the way of a patient and getting what they need. Kinda refreshing that this place does what it is supposed to do and they make it seem effortless."

— J.M. (healthcare professional)  |  Google Review and Yelp

"We have cared for both of our children over four years. Their interventions have been vital to our children's development, and their family-centered approach has empowered everyone, children and parents, to play a role in our children's success. They have advocated tirelessly for us to ensure insurance coverage, and they have gone above and beyond to make sure our children receive the care they need. We really feel part of the MOCO family."

—  Michael  |  Google Review

"My son has been going to MoCo Movement center for the last 8 months. He has made tremendous progress with his gross motor skills, more so than any other PT/OT center we've used over the years. His therapist provides me with a face to face briefing at the end of each of his sessions. The other aspect about the program that I really like is that she challenges him constantly. Pushes him to try harder and do better! Sometimes the therapists will tag-team and he will have a PT and one or two assistants helping out during his session."
